A decision to start playing a new Missouri Lottery game led one Raytown woman to a $5,000 win. Roberta Stephenson, 57, said she regularly plays several Draw Games and recently added Lucky for Life to her list. She matched four numbers in the March 12 drawing to win the $5,000 prize.
“I play Powerball, Show Me Cash, Lotto and Mega (Millions),” began Stephenson.
She just added Lucky for Life in the last few weeks and has already won her largest prize to date.
Stephenson was accompanied by her husband, Rick, to the Kansas City office on March 13 to claim her prize. She bought the winning Quick Pick ticket Apple Market, 11501 E. 63rd St., in Raytown. He discovered the prize while checking tickets on MOLottery.com.
“She was in bed, and I was going through there (checking tickets),” explained Rick. “She got abruptly woken up.”
“It didn’t occur to me that there was a good reason that there was screaming going on,” added Roberta.
Stephenson manages a school cafeteria in the Lee’s Summit school district. She said the windfall would be saved for retirement.
“We’re going to save it for a while,” she said.
“Just keep trying, because it will pay off,” she counseled others.
