Waking up to $25,000 a year for life on Christmas Day

A White Bear Lake, MN resident got himself a Christmas gift that keeps on giving. On Dec. 25, Shane Koller discovered that the Lucky for Life ticket he has purchased the night before had won a $25,000 a year for life prize.

“I saw the numbers 13-17-28-29-30—Merry Christmas!”

Koller purchased the lucky ticket on Christmas Eve, less than 10 minutes before the drawing cutoff time.

Holiday Stationstores Inc., located at 1800 E. County Road F in White Bear Lake, sold the winning ticket.

Koller’s ticket matched the first five numbers drawn. Had the ticket matched the sixth winning number—the Lucky Ball, which was 5—he would have won the game’s top prize of $1,000 a day for life. “It was just one off from winning $1,000 a day for life!” he recalled. “If I had a 5 instead of a 6 …”

Koller claimed the prize on Dec. 28, 2015. Lucky for Life winners have 60 days from the date that they claim the prize to decide if they would like $25,000 a year for life or a one-time cash option. On Jan. 4, Koller decided to take the $25,000 a year for life option.
